ALEX SUTHERLAND
Ceramics, paintings, drawings & found objects
Alex Sutherland’s (she/her) practice is multidisciplinary - and by that she means she flits between mediums frequently (much to her own frustration). Since graduating in Fine Art from WSA she has worked across multiple mediums; photography, assemblage art, ceramics and moving image.
What tends to drive her ideas is the intuitive notion that every creative decision she makes is predisposed.
Unpacking the past and sifting through familiar imagery and objects usually fuels her art making. Alex sees her practice as a therapy, sometimes it feels too intense to get into and other times she cracks open a fossil in her memory and the creative content flows.
Besides her art practice she works as a learning officer and facilitates creative workshops for children and families. Working alongside children has allowed Alex to engage in a more playful style of art making and exercises her imagination.
