Jennifer Mon
The power of play, joy and expression
Mon Studio is the creative playground of Jennifer Mon (She/They), a queer creative of colour from Lisbon, Portugal, based in Southampton, UK. Raised in a mixed immigrant household (Brazilian and Cape Verdian) whilst living and studying in a white European society, she grew to question the role of the self concerning interpersonal relationships.
In 2020, Mon moved to the UK to pursue further education and a career in the art scene. During her studies, she discovers the work of Hannah Hoch and Helina Metaferina, inspiring her to begin her journey as a collage artist.
Mon's work uses texture, bold colours, spacious typographic elements and playful wit to explore various roles in society through the lens of a queer woman of colour. Her work can capture an authentic political and emotional experience, focused on the self, and community. Through that lens Mon's mixed media work calls for human connection, highlighting the importance of self-expression in the human experience.
